The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the chief minister Omar Abdullah for saying that Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India was conditional and that the state had not merged with the country.
BJP state spokesperson and state election in-charge Arun Kumar Gupta said that Abdullah's statement is "nothing but a white lie". He said the National Conference leader was deliberately "misleading people" for petty political gains.
"J&K is an integral part of India as enshrined in the constitution of J&K as well as the constitution of India," Gupta said.
He further said that the instrument of accession signed by Hari Singh, the last monarch of the state, on October 26, 1947 was similar to the ones signed by other princely states.
Gupta said that in order to cover up the "utter failure" of his government during the past six years Abdullah has resorted to misleading the people by "twisting historical facts".
"Omar Abdullah is well advised to see the writing on the wall and concede defeat rather than arousing the passion of the people through false statements," the BJP member added.
