The ruling BJP would seek to complete a majority in the Uttarakhand assembly as counting of votes for the Vikasnagar by-election would be held on Monday.
Chief Minister R P Nishank faces his first test at Vikasnagar after he took over the reigns on June 27 from his predecessor B C Khanduri who was forced to quit in the wake of BJP's setback in the Lok Sabha polls.
With Nishank and state party leadership toiling hard during the electioneering to garner public support for BJP candidate Kuldip Kumar, the ruling party on Sunday expressed confidence that it would win the seat comfortably.
"We will win this seat comfortably," said Ajay Bhatt state BJP general secretary.
Kumar is facing a stiff challenge from Congress candidate Nav Prabhat and Munna Singh Chauhan, an independent.
Congress state president Y P Arya also exuded confidence that the party would continue to perform well. Congress had won all the five Lok Sabha seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
With BJP having a strength of 34 in the 70 member Uttarakhand House, the party would seek to touch the magic figure of 36 when the counting of votes begins tomorrow.
The Assembly Speaker is also from the BJP. But in case BJP loses, it would not affect the government, which is already getting support from its ally, the 3-member Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD).
