Besides looking at shuffling several state presidents and national office-bearers, senior BJP leaders and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are also debating a possible change in the responsibilities of Sangathan Mantris, or RSS pracharaks working in the BJP, at the national and the state level.

Party general secretary Amit Shah is the frontrunner for the BJP president's post, but a decision is likely to be taken only after budget session of Parliament.

"After a new president takes over, he will reconstitute the team of national office bearers and the state units. Future leaders with potential to win election and having a social background will be promoted," a BJP leader told HT.

Other party sources indicated that new BJP teams in states may be announced after the expansion of the Modi cabinet, since some state presidents who have now become MPs could find a place in the Union council of ministers.

Among the top party office bearers who are now ministers in the Modi government include party president Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Uma Bharti, Piyush Goyal, Prakash Javadekar and Nirmala Sitharaman.

"All of them will leave their organisational posts in the reshuffle that will happen after a new president takes over," another BJP leader said.

Also, the RSS and the BJP are considering some changes in the role of Sangathan Mantris, some of whom have been holding this responsibility for almost a decade now. Sunil Bansal, a close aide of Amit Shah who assisted him during the recent Lok Sabha elections, was recently made the Sangathan Mantri of Uttar Pradesh.
