The BJP’s crucial national executive meeting ahead of the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections gets underway in Panaji on Saturday, just a day after a brainstorming session of the party’s office bearers, parliamentary board members, state unit chiefs and general secretaries concluded in Panaji on Friday evening.
The meeting discussed the resolutions that the near-300 member BJP executive would pass over the next two days. The first resolution, coming up on Saturday, would address the nation’s internal and external security situation. On Sunday, the party would pass a political resolution dealing with the failures of the UPA – including the economic state.
The BJP is expected to take the Centre to task on the Maoist issue and the recent problems along the borders with Pakistan and China in the resolution on security. It will also focus on alleged corruption in the UPA, inflation and lowered GDP growth in the party’s political resolution.
While its own Chhattisgarh government faces the heat over its handling of the Maoist situation, the party is arguing that the threat is a centre-state concern unlike common law and order problems.
Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the conclave would brainstorm on the state polls ahead and also review the performance of party programmes and campaigns.

“How could it be discussed in such negativity?” asked a BJP leader. The BJP patriarch — who skipped the meet since he was “unwell” — is known to have reservations with a Modi-only pitch.
