The BJP will oppose the office of profit bill, returned by the President, if the Centre comes back to Parliament with it, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said on Saturday.

Addressing an executive committee meeting of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit, he expressed the hope that 'better sense' will prevail on the UPA government and it will not move forward on the bill which, he said, was against the basic spirit of the Constitution.

The President, while sending back the bill, had raised very important political, moral and legal issues, Naidu said, adding the Congress and Left parties should realise that public opinion was 'against their action.'

Describing the President's action as a "slap on the face of the Congress and Left parties," he said if they still 'shamelessly' went ahead to serve their 'partisan interests,' they would get further discredited.

On the ban on the controversial film The Da Vinci Code by some state governments, he said it was yet another incident of vote bank politics. Those who were making a hue and cry about protests against Aamir Khan's film Fanaa in Gujarat were silent on the "partisan actions" of Congress governments in some states and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, he said.
