Chander Prakash Kathuria, state secretary of the BJP, on Tuesday said that the state government and the Center were indifferent to the problems faced by the commuters while travelling on the GT Road.

Construction work of elevated highways on the Panipat-Jalandhar stretch of the NH-1 has been delayed due to various reasons.

Non-availability of construction material is stated to be the reason behind the delayed project as Punjab and Haryana has banned mining in the state.

Kathuria claimed while the project of constructing bridges and underpasses was held up in the GT Road belt on the pretext of non-availability of construction material, various projects in Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat and other districts were going on at a smooth pace.

Kathuria said it was illogical to charge toll tax from the commuters using poor roads and he would file public interest litigation (PIL) in the Punjab and Haryana high court.

"Poor road conditions are causing accidents and our study says that nearly 110 people have lost their lives near Karnal city due to it. Families of these victims should be given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each and a government job," Kathuria said.
