The party’s five-member fact-finding team on a visit to Kashmir headed by former party president Rajnath Singh visited the family of the slain leader at Lalbazar in Srinagar.

This is the first time in the recent years that BJP has visited the family of any assassinated Kashmiri leader with separatist leanings.

“The way Molvi Sahab was brutally killed; I want to assure that we will not only raise the issue with Home Minister but also with Prime Minister. The killing should be probed,” Rajnath Singh told the family.

Shah, a prominent religious leader and head of Jamaiet-Ahli-Hadees, was killed in a blast on April 08 when he was entering a mosque for Friday prayers. Shah was also a close aide of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Yasin Malik.

“He was a good man with good intentions. He wanted peace in Kashmir,” Singh said.

The team earlier also visited the Kashmir most revered Shrine- the Dargah Hazratbal on the banks of Dal lake in city outskirts. The BJP leaders also paid respects at the Chati Padshahi Gurdwara (Sikh temple) in the old city's Rainawari area.
