The BJP on Friday demanded that the same parliamentary probe panel, which Congress leader PK Bansal quit as its head, should investigate the allegations that he misused his own MP fund for a club membership.

Bansal resigned as chairman of the parliamentary committee probing the MPLAD expose after allegations that he released money from his development fund for a squash court in his Chandigarh constituency in return for a club membership, a charge the Congress leader denies.

"There seems a quid pro quo in this case. It's good Bansal has resigned from the committee probing the MPLAD case, but the same committee should now investigate the charges that the Congress leader has misused his MP fund for a club membership," BJP spokesman Prakash Javaekar told reporters.

Last month, BJP MPs Chhattrapal Singh Lodha, Anna Saheb MK Patil, YG Mahajan, Pradeep Ganhi, Suresh Chandel and Chandra Pratap Singh were expelled after the Bansal commitee found them guilty of taking bribes in return for raising questions in Parliament.
