Blind men cast votes through Braille system

Five blind voters at a booth in the Krishnagar Lok Sabha constituency in Nadia district, cast their votes on Friday by using the Braille system.

Election officials here said that the blind men had been trained through several sessions to operate the Braille system prior to exercising their franchise.

Polling at a booth at Raina village under Burdwan East Lok Sabha constituency here was stalled after voters allgedly smashed an Electronic Voting Machine after it started malfunctioning.

"Voters of 17A booth here got angry when the EVM malfunctioned and they threw it on the ground as the presiding officer allegedly insisted on carrying out the voting process with the machine," Additional Superintendent of Police, Humaun Kabir said.

A total of 121 voters out of 653 in the booth cast their votes till one pm, sources said. Election officials said that a repoll might be recommended in the booth.
