It may not be a solution to all the problems you face but it is definitely a way to communicate them.

Ghaziabad police have launched an online platform for “pro-active public discussion” on problems and meeting people. Residents can log in and share their views about law and order situation in Ghaziabad.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhil Kumar initiated this exercise. And after a three-week trial, the ‘blog’ is now open for residents to visit and share their concerns.

“Residents can write to us on issues that will benefit everyone. Some examples are safe environment for working women, community policing, traffic problems, etc. We request the people to restrain from putting up personal and individual complaints,” he said.

Although the district police does not have a website yet, the ‘blog’ is expected to mark

the police’s presence on the world wide web as well as open channels of communication with residents.

“During our trial run, we were flooded with responses from teenagers and other residents. We received a lot of responses for de-congestion of Mohan Nagar flyover and we have started working on it,” he said.

“We have a shortage of funds for development of a site and if discussions with GDA officials are fruitful, the district police would have its own website shortly,” the SSP said.

Ghaziabad residents are also upbeat about the ‘blog’.

“There was no common platform to interact with the police and others on issues related to crime. This would definitely help,” said Preeti Sinha, a teacher and a resident of H-Block in Kavinagar.
