THE HUSBAND of a woman Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator today allegedly misbehaved with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner while the demolition squad was removing an encroachment from Nehru Nagar Square.

BJP corporator from Ward 31, Vandana Parihar and her husband Parmar Singh Parihar today vehemently opposed the removal of an encroachment of an ahata (a place for drinking liquor), which was set up illegally on Government land estimated at Rs 15 lakh. Parihar’s supporters also pelted stones on BMC vehicles breaking the windowpanes of a truck.
According to information, this ahata was set up adjoining a liquor shop at Nehru Nagar Square and a year ago, Parihar and her supporters had demonstrated against the same liquor shop.
However, today she allegedly opposed the removal of encroachment of same shop. The encroachers had also put up a religious flag on the same place to avoid any action.
The BMC team reached Nehru Nagar to remove the structure of this ahata at about 3.30 pm. However, due to opposition from the ahata and employees of the shopkeeper, BMC Commissioner Manish Singh too reached the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, Vandana Parihar was questioning Singh why a notice was not issued to the shop owner. When Singh and BMC officials told her that it was not a rule to issue notices to illegal occupants, a heated exchange broke out between Parihar and Singh. At this juncture, Parihar’s husband pulled Singh by his shoulder from behind.
