BMC is also issuing notices for occupancy violation to nursing homes and hospitals being run in residential buildings. Over 100 nursing homes and hospitals are being run in residential buildings mostly in New Bhopal areas.

Earlier, BMC authorities had written a letter to Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) that 45 nursing homes were being run in BDA developed colonies. BDA served notices to these nursing homes and BMC has asked BDA to take action as per their agreement with the purchaser of the houses or the plots.

However, BMC was unable to take action as influential people including ministers inaugurated such nursing homes. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh himself recently inaugurated a nursing home on a residential plot in Arera Colony.

According to officials, BMC issued building permission for residential purposes on such plots, but owners or tenants converted these to hospitals or nursing homes after making some changes. Large-scale occupancy violation in the posh Arera Colony has resulted in problems to those residents, who purchased homes for residential purpose.

Given the difficult situation and unable to tackle large-scale land use violation by hospitals and nursing homes, BMC authorities have been forced to carry out video shooting of activities being carrying out in these residential buildings.
