ALTHOUGH THE late date of admission fixed by the Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU) is over, the BND College management has not been able to fill in 314 seats.
The college students, who were staging a sit-in to protest against irregularities in admission process, said that this happened due to adamant attitude of the college management.
However, admission to these seats can be made after seeking special permission from the university.
According to a senior professor at the college DrVivek Diwedi, the problem was created by the college principal who allegedly ignored the merit as sole criterion for admission.
He told HT that against 1125 seats in the college, the principal declared a list of 519 students on July 25 and stopped the admission to another 526 seats. This infuriated the students who were seeking admission. Although both the students and the teachers requested the principal GS Chandel to consider merit as criterion for admission, he failed to initiate any action and finally went on long medical leave.
Consequently, Dr Diwedi sat on indefinite fast on July 27 to make merit as the only criterion for admission.

{{/usCountry}}Later, the university and the district administration intervened and a fresh list of 212 students was prepared on merit basis. The list was displayed on the college notice board on Saturday.
However, admissions against 312 seats could not be finalised till Saturday. Since the colleges and the university were closed till July 31, the admission process could not be started.
Dr Diwedi said that if the university condoned the delay, admission to the vacant seats can be made. If the university refuses to condone the delay, the seats will remain unfilled this year.
