A LARGE number of irregularities were witnessed on the ninth day of the UP Board High School and Intermediate examinations here on Friday. But the education department failed to take any action against the guilty.

There were complaints that many fake candidates took the examination and at several centres, some invigilators dictated answers to the students for a price. Besides, there were complaints that some fake invigilators were working at some centres.

While the education department turned a blind eye to such complaints, strict measures were taken by the district administration which forced the department to shift the in-charges of 70 examination centres following newspaper reports of irregularities. At some examination centres, district magistrate RN Tripathi himself detected fake I-cards of those engaged in examination duty.

Despite newspaper reports that teachers and staff doing examination duty were carrying fake I-cards with forged signature, the DIOS office ignored it. When the DM himself detected one such cards and many fake students taking the examination, he was puzzled.

Recalling last year’s attack on copying mafia by DIOS II Umesh Tripathi, the teachers’ body said that his absence was being largely felt. “The manner in which drive against the copying mafia was carried out by Tripathi was certainly missing,” the teachers’ body said.
