Bodo tribals have accused the Assam police of not being able to control the violence resorted to by Bangladeshi Muslim immigrants settlers against them in Assam's Udalguri and Darrang districts.
The tribals have sought deployment of the Army in the affected areas instead of local police.
Several violence-affected Bodo tribals living in relief camps at Udalguri Girls High School and Udalguri College have accused local policemen of siding with miscreants.
“Some of villagers informed a police patrol party present nearby about the violence and arson but they did not take any action against the miscreants. We were surprised at police's attitude,” alleged Arati Saha, Arati Saha, a resident of Ekrabari.
Meanwhile, one Bodo youth was injured in police firing at Moinaguri Naharghat village on Monday evening.
Agitated villagers, demanding withdrawal of a particular battalion from Mazbat, gheraoed the police station later. It was only after a magistrate assured them action against the policemen, the gherao was called off.
In Darrang district too, there were allegations against the Assam police's inaction against those who indulged in violence.
In the backdrop of unabated violence in these two districts, 10 companies of BSF, four companies of SSB were deployed in both the districts on Tuesday.

Three more bodies found
With the recovery of three more bodies from three different places in Udalguri district, the death toll has hit 53. The
bodies were recovered from Bhakatapara, Hahinigaon and Mazbat area in Udalguri district.
To accommodate displaced people, the government has opened up new relief camps. At present, 82 relief camps are functional. Of which 46 relief camps at Udalguri district sheltering 8,8000 and 36 relief camps in Darrang district sheltering 6,6000 violence-affected people.
