The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has written to all state governments of the NCR towns urging them to notify introduction of flexible working hours system. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and to avoid congestion on roads, lanes and bylanes of Delhi during forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
Flexible scheduling is an arrangement whereby an employee is involved in selecting their own work hours, and sometimes workdays. The companies should offer the flexible working hour during core business hours.
The proposal to this effect has been sent to Commonwealth Games Organising committee and the state governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to relieve working population within NCR of their normal working hours as it will disrupt flow of traffic and create chaos, confusion and unnecessary traffic snarls.
Assocham Secretary General D.S. Rawat said during the Games, 85 lakh-strong working population of Delhi and NCR can make use of flexi-hours system and avoid using public transport for commuting between their homes and offices and prevent traffic jams both in peak and normal hours.
"The XIX Commonwealth Games (CWG) will be held in Delhi between October 3 and October 14 and the closing ceremony has already been declared as a holiday. But the shift in working hours to reduce traffic congestion and the commuting time should also be considered as proposed by the Assocham," said Rawat.

{{/usCountry}}During morning peak hours (which begin at 7 a.m.) office-goers take about three hours to reach their offices through public transport. The maximum load is on Delhi-Gurgaon, south, north, east Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad roads.
