The Malwani Police discovered a dead body of a small girl in a marshy pond near a farm in Malad west on Sunday night. On investigation, the police found out that the child had been missing from last Thursday.
According to Sanjay Jadhav, Senior Inspector of Malwani Police Station, the five-year-old was playing in her neighbourhood near her house located in number six colony in Giliswadi, when suddenly she went missing. The Choudhary family had lodged a missing complaint with the police. Although the parents of the girl thought that their kid had been kidnapped.
However, on Sunday at around 10.30 pm the police received a call about a dead body in a gutter in Giliswadi. The body was sent to the Bhagwati Hospital for post-mortem as the parents suspected that the girl had been kidnapped, raped and then murdered. The girl's preliminary post-mortem report however, ruled out the suspicion of rape.
"The corpse was found in a decomposed state in a marshy pond near the place from where she had gone missing four days ago. When the body was sent for post-mortem the medical reports stated that the girl had died approximately 72-hour ago, that is almost the same time she had gone missing.
According to the report, it has also been confirmed that the child has not been raped, as there were no external or internal injury marks on the body," said Jadhav. "Secondly, the parents of the girl did not receive any ransom calls so it is not confirmed that the kid had been kidnapped. However, investigations are on as the cause of the death is not still clear. We are awaiting the chemical analysis reports. There is also a question mark on whether the girl went near the pond herself or was she taken there," he added.
