Bohani has been a typical Congress citadel, returning the candidates of the party save twice in its 40 year electoral history. In 1962, a Socialist candidate won the election and in 1990, the BJP managed to get the seat. But, its been Congress through and through for the district.

Sitting MLA Deewan Chandrabhan Singh is considered a very strong candidate in his own right, having won for two consecutive terms. His margin was also one of the highest over the BJP rival, as far as district is concerned. He is once again the candidate from this
constituency.

BJP came out with a surprise candidate in Sanjay Sharma though initially the party had almost decided upon the name of Kailash Soni as the candidate here. Soni is a relative of Sunderlal Patwa.
