Kareena Kapoor was declared the 'cutest vegetarian' that fans would love to emulate in an online poll conducted by PETA. “If my fans are looking up to me and have turned vegetarian, then I am happy about it. I am a pure vegetarian and it helps me keep fit and healthy,” says Kareena.

R. Madhavan, who has always encouraged young people to go vegetarian for their health, the animals and the environment was also voted as the cutest vegetarian in the male category. It was a close race with stiff challenges mounted by a bevy of runners-up, including Mallika Sherawat, Mahima Chaudhary, Shahid Kapur and Rajneesh Duggal.

Esha Deol, Vidya Balan, John Abraham and Hema Malini too have left no stone unturned to promote vegetarianism.

It is a day of celebration established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. About one million people a year become vegetarians in the US alone and millions in Europe, Australasia too. Everything that we are doing is making a difference and every little bit helps.
