Sanjay, who was convicted for the possession of illegal weapons in the serial blasts, is out on bail and is under instructions to surrender on January 18.

Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar and former Mumbai sheriff Nana Chudasama were among those who submitted affidavits in Sanjay's support.

"Four persons have given an affidavit which has been annexed to the application. These are Dr Yusuf Merchant, Dilip Kumar, Nana Chudasama and Vipul Khadri. They have vouched for Sanjay's behaviour," said Farhana Shah, counsel for Dutt.

Nana Chudasama, Sanjay's close family friend, said that the actor has suffered a lot in the past and it was time for him to become free.

"Poor fellow is in trouble. I think it is a mental torture for him. He has suffered enough. He has got enough punishment. He went to the jail for one-and-a-half years,” Nana added.

Sanjay’s lawyers say the court should consider his "good conduct" during the years he has been on bail.
