Bollywood sweeps UK

Recently, filmmakers have enhanced Bollywood's image by producing films that lured global movie buffs.

Bollywood is spreading its wings speedily and have successfully captured the sizeable global market. But the results aren't as satisfactory as they should have been.

However, in Britain the results are more pleasing. Hindi films have certainly created a niche for themselves in Britain in last few years. From Shekhar Kapur to Gurinder Chadha to Ashutosh Gowariker, filmmakers have enhanced Bollywood’s image by churning out high-quality films that considerably met the expectations of the global critics and lured global movie buffs.

If last year, Karan Johar's tearjerker Kal Ho Naa Ho posted the highest per screen average in Britain when it was released, this year Hum Tum and Main Hoon Na’s success has maintained the consistency. Bollywood’s popularity was taken a step further with Yash Chopra's love saga Veer-Zaara and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades.

Going by the overseas market analysis, Shahrukh Khan's films are much more in demand and he is one of the most popular Bollywood stars.

Even crossover cinema is making the job easier for Bollywood. Filmmakers are trying to make films that whet the appetite of global movie buffs.

While talking about the Bollywood's performance in Britain, one can't ignore Oscar nominated Lagaan's success which prompted many mainstream publications profile Hindi movies.
