A bomb planted by militants exploded near the Assam police reserve compound in Bongaigaon district on Friday but no casualties were reported.

Police from Bongaigaon said the device, kept in a bicycle resting against the wall of the police reserve in the town, went off at 12.45 pm.

As the bomb was not powerful, it failed to even damage the wall, they said.
The identity of the militants who planted the device and the type of the bomb could not be ascertained immediately, police said.
