A powerful bomb planted by suspected militants today exploded in Manipur's Thoubal district, officials said.

A powerful bomb planted by suspected militants today exploded in Manipur's Thoubal district, officials said.

The bomb, planted along a road connecting Imphal-Moreh, went off at around 2:30 pm at Lilong, about 15 km from here, however, there was no report of ant casualty, they said.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

Seven major insurgent groups in Northeast have given a boycott call on Independence Day's across the region.

A general strike has been called by the rebels in the state on August 15, officials said.
