Bombing terror camps in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir out of anger and fury is no solution to the repeated attacks in India. Since Pakistan and India have 80 to 100 nuclear warheads each, it will lead to a point of no return, according to US foreign policy expert Stephen P Cohen.

He said at a plenary interactive session of the IIT Alumni 2008 Global Conference at the IIT-Madras on Saturday, “If I were an Indian, I would be furious too”, but a ‘hot pursuit’ approach would serve no useful purpose.

Cohen said even if specific targets were bombed, “training takes place in other places too. You will be bombing empty spaces as nobody will be there”.

Comparing to the India-Pakistan crisis to the US-Soviet relations years ago, Cohen said, “There are limits to which we can provoke each other.” India has to “bring in the other countries that play a role in South Asian stability. There is no way out, except normalisation and dialogue”, he said.
