Expressing concern over depleting water table, a resident of DLF-3 has lodged a complaint with the district administration, seeking urgent action against the contractor of Rapid Metro Rail project for digging borewell in the area.
The deputy commissioner (DC), PC Meena, has assured of taking appropriate action in this regard. The DC is the nodal authority to allow digging of borewell after ensuring that the facility will be used only for extracting drinking water.
"I have not given permission for the borewell at DLF-3," said the DC, adding, "if it has happened the person deserves stringent action and I am going to send my staff to inspect the area." The borewell digging work, according to complainant CD Mittal, was underway for the past few days and the labourers can be seen working during night.
"I have been objecting since day one. I have informed MCG officials, sent mails to DC and CGWA," Mittal said, adding that the water extracted from the borewell is being used for rapid metro construction works.
A rapid metro spokesperson said, "The borewell digging has not taken place as yet. We rather have taken the residents' objection into consideration and stopped the work."

{{/usCountry}}Experts have also expressed concern over borewell digging in notified areas like DLF, where water table is estimated to be around 220 feet deep.
"It is alarming and the administration should check it immediately," said Gauhar Mehmood, professor, civil engineering department, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.
The department is currently involved in restoring water table in the district. It has been assigned by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to prepare structures for rain water harvesting systems.
