The division of Andhra Pradesh on Monday turned a large part of the public in both states nostalgic of the times spent together — sharing cultures, cuisines, knowledge and affection.
“For most part of my service, I’ve worked in the Telangana districts. I would forever cherish the respect and love the people here showed on me,” said a senior IAS officer who is certain to be shifted to Seemandhra.
In a department in the secretariat, Seemandhra and Telangana employees had a lunch party together two days before bifurcation. Old time Telanganites, despite accusing Seemandhraites of taking their jobs, say they learnt the value of education and new cultivation methods from “the Andhra people.”
“Education levels were low here so it was mostly teachers from Andhra who taught us at schools,” says Madhusudhan Rao.
Given the rage against bifurcation, Prabhakar Raju, a driver from Nalgonda says he was apprehensive when on a tour in Coastal Andhra. “But I was pleasantly surprised to know they still see Telanganites as friends, brothers.”
