The eight-year-old boy died on the spot when a group of children toyed with a live grenade they had found in a playground in Sunarwani village, 70 kms from Srinagar, near Bandipora town in Baramulla district on the India-Pakistan border.

"The three children have sustained serious splinter injuries," said Muhammad Subhan Lone, deputy inspector general of police (north Kashmir range).

Aged between seven and 11, the boys were brought to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
