The boycott of 10 families, who support controversial Sant Rampal, continued for the second day at Karontha village of the district on Monday.
The families have been boycotted from using common places of the village such as shops and wells. Besides snapping water and cable connection to their houses, the village youth have warned other villagers not to supply them with food, water, transportation and other basic amenities.
Notably, Sant Rampal's supporters were evicted from the village-based Satlok Ashram on May 12 after violence broke out that left three dead and more than 100 injured. It was on Saturday that the 10 families who supported Rampal were boycotted by the villagers on Saturday.
The decision was taken after a brawl between a family supporting Rampal and an Arya Samji family in the village. Thereafter, the village panchayat decided to boycott them and punish them for going against the majority of the village and idolising Rampal, who, according to them, was responsible for the death of three Arya Samajis.
Sources in the village informed HT that the women of the 10 boycotted families had gone to fetch drinking water from the village well on Monday but were turned away. And, the men of the families were also barred from making their cattle drink water at the village pond.
In a press release on Monday, Dharmender and Sanjay Kumar, followers of Sant Rampal and residents of the village, said that a handful of people who were followers of Arya Samaj had forced other villagers to boycott them. They claimed that it was not the village panchayat but a handful of village youths who had boycotted them.
