At the 39th meeeting of the Board, its Chairman M K Sharma said the PMO has directed that there is need to refurbish the functioning of the Board and asked the members to spell out the constraints facing different projects in the Brahmaputra and Barak valley, according to an official release.

It was felt that the Board be given status similar to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to enable it to raise funds from the public so as to finance projects.

The meeting discussed the status of the ongoing projects, namely, Harrang Drainage Development Scheme, Pagladiya Dam Project and Avulsion of Brahmaputra at Dholla-Hatighuli and the Board was apprised of the position, according to an official release.

Sharma informed members on the ongoing the Rehabilitation and Resettlement package of Pagladiya Dam project and overall socio-economic development of the people of the area.

He wanted the Board to immediately appoint a Director to look after the North Eastern Hydraulic Allied Research Institute (NEHARI).

Board Chairman said that it was the responsibility of the State government to take up the matter and sort out the problem with other riparian states.
