BRAHMINS AND minorities have taken centrestage in eastern Uttar Pradesh politics. The Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party are vying with one another to attract Brahmins.
The Congress has nominated four Brahmins as district presidents following the recent revamp of the party organisation in Gorakhpur and Basti divisions. The party has given representation to the minority and Dalit communities as office-bearers.
On its part, the BSP has decided to organise a Brahmin conference in Maharajganj from July 6. Party national secretary Satish Chandra Mishra is leaving no stone unturned to attract the community members. Besides, the party has constituted a Bhaichara Banao Samiti to attract the minorities. The BSP activists are posing to be defenders of the minorities.
In the recent reshuffle, the Congress nominated four Brahmins as district president. In Basti, the party nominated Anirudh Prasad Tripathi as the new district party president.
In Kushinagar, Gyanendra Pandey will remain the party president. Kailash Tiwari has been nominated as city unit president of the party in Deoria. In Siddharth Nagar district, the party has replaced Rudresh Singh and nominated Ishwar Chand Shukla as the new district party president.
Party has also provided representation to the minorities. Fazle Masood has been nominated new district president of Sant Kabir Nagar district, replacing Nazim Khan. Similarly, Chaudhary Irshad Husain has been given one more chance. In seven districts of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions, four district presidents of the Congress are Brahmins, while one district and city unit president of the party is from the minority community. Moreover, in Maharajganj district, Scheduled Caste leader Alok Prasad has been given preference.

The Samajwadi Party is depending on cabinet minister Harishanker Tiwari to attract Brahmin voters.
The party is giving full respect to MLC Ganesh Shanker Pandey. The trio of Ganesh Shanker Pandey, State minister Jaiprakash Yadav and district unit president Chandrabali Yadav has proven lucky for the party. The party registered victory in the Kauriram by-election and the Zila Panchayat chairperson election in the district.
