A bridge under repair collapsed in western Bangladesh on Tuesday, killing at least three construction workers who were crushed by a huge slab of concrete, police said.

The accident occurred over the Kajla River in Meherpur district, 175 kms west of the capital, Dhaka, said area police official Atiqur Rahman.

He said a huge chunk of concrete fell on at least eight construction workers who were working under the bridge, killing two of them instantly.
A third worker died on the way to a hospital. The injured were hospitalised, he said. The cause of the collapse was not clear immediately, he said.
