PREPARATIONS ARE in full swing to start the long-pending renovation work at Malviya bridge, one of the oldest bridges of Northern Railways, here in Varanasi. The renovation work is likely to start from December 14.

The UP Bridge Corporation has sought from Northern Railway to block trains for 10 hours on Malviya bridge to initiate the renovation work there. But, the Northern Railway can only block for maximum two hours.
Additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) of Northern Railway, Anil Kumar, confirmed reports that the UP Bridge Corporation had submitted a letter demanding to block trains for 10 hours on Malviya Bridge but the Northern Railway could give permission for maximum two hours only.
The engineers and officials of UP Bridge Corporation are also preparing a comprehensive plan to start the renovation work on the bridge. The corporation had already agreed to submit the charges of Railways including supervision to Northern Railways.
Besides, the engineering department of Northern Railway is also ready to supervise the renovation work.
Earlier, at a meeting of district administration and Northern Railways officials here on December 5 district magistrate Rajiv Agrawal assured all sorts of assistance to the Northern Railways officials required in the renovation process.
