British high commissioner in high spirits for games

The Indian connections to London Olympics are far too many and they are far too important for the success of the "greatest show on earth," says British high commissioner to India, James Bevan.

The Indian connections to London Olympics are far too many and they are far too important for the success of the "greatest show on earth," says British high commissioner to India, James Bevan.

He doesn't want to compare London Olympics with any previous games of the same or smaller scale and hopes the games will revive economies, revitalize business ties and improve the lot of scores of people in his country and beyond.

"All set for the greatest show on the earth", he says in conversation with Hindustan Times, citing many Indian connections that he is sure will add to the excitement of the games for which his government has spent around £ 9 billion.

From Amitabh Bachchan to Lakshmi Mittal, to Fauja Singh to one million Indians in London, the Indian links of the games are strikingly visible.

The Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra, has been working closely with the British High Commission.
