BRITISH LIBRARY launched a reading competition for school children titled ‘Reading Mission’ on Children’s Day. The competition will be run in partnership with local schools and is open to non-member children also in appropriate age-groups.
The basic competition runs on the theme of reading as many books as possible within a period of six weeks. The purpose is to encourage a habit of reading among children with the added promise of winning medals. Some interesting workshops are also organised for the participating children.
The Reading Mission book collection is aimed at two age groups – Younger collection for children in Class I to III and older collection for children in standard IV to VII.
The display of this special collection started in the library from November 14 and will go on till Sunday November 19. The library invites school principals, teachers and children to visit the book display.
Once the schools register themselves, they will get competition resources – books posters, log books for children to run the competition at their school for their school children.
Winning children will get a medal and all participating children will get a Reading Mission certificate. Schools interested to run this competition in partnership with the British Library are invited to inform the library by Sunday November 19 and register for the competition. Only four partnerships are available for this event and registration will be done on a first come first serve basis.
