IN A major drug haul, Crime Branch and the Chandan Nagar police today seized 4 kg and 36 grams of brown sugar and arrested one person in this connection. The price of the seized brown sugar is said to be around Rs 4 crore in the international market.
Additional SP Crime Santosh Singh Gaur said that they had received a tip off that the consignment was to be delivered near Loha Gate, Dhar Road, falling under the Chandan Nagar police station area this morning.
A Crime Branch and Chandan Nagar police station team was stationed there when they spotted the accused waiting to make the delivery. Gaur said they also wanted to nab the person who was to receive the consignment, but when even after waiting for a long time he did not come and there was real danger that the carrier himself might go away, the police arrested him.
He has been identified as Jeevan (25) son of Bagga, resident of Jhalawar in Rajasthan. He was carrying the drugs in a black bag, packed into two polythene bags. He has been booked under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act.
Gaur said they had taken police remand of the accused and were trying to find out from where he had purchased the drugs and where he was going to supply them.
