United Forum of BSNL Unions (UFBU) said the non-executive workers would protest against "the discrimination shown to them compared to executive employees".

At present, five or more promotions are given to executive officers, but only two promotions or less are given to the non-executive employees, UFBU said in a statement.

The union alleged that a new promotion scheme was introduced for the executives, effective from October 2004, "whereas the management is refusing to extend the same to non-executives".

It said the union has been demanding for a reasonable promotion policy for the non-executives and had even went on hunger strike earlier this week.
