Though the SEC had declared the result of Barabanki on Saturday but the district magistrate withheld the result. In his report the DM had stated that due to murder of former SP MLA Hardeo Rawat during poll terror prevailed in the area.

Complaints of bogus voting were made by the candidates demanding that the SEC should order re-polling. The report of the DM put the SEC in a dilemma and the result was withheld.

But BSP leaders registered protest over the action of the DM. They alleged that after killing of Rawat, the CM had visited Barabanki. Under the pressure of the SP leaders the DM did not announce the result. A delegation of BSP leaders met Governor TV Rajeswar on Monday and urged him to interfere in the Barabanki and Allahabad ZP polls. The BSP leaders informed the Governor that all 56 ZP members had voted on Saturday. BSP candidate Shiela defeated her nearest rival SP candidate Dinesh Chandra by a margin of 4 votes. After ballot counting was completed the DM urged the SEC to grant permission to declare the results.

BSP leaders also informed the Governor that the SP candidate had kidnapped four ZP, who could not cast their vote and the SP candidate was declared winner. Later, in the evening, a meeting of SEC officials was held under the chairmanship of SEC Aparmita Prasad Singh. After watching the video film of voting, signature of voters and the first report dispatched by the DM, the EC directed the DM to announce the result and to issue certificate to BSP candidate Shiela.
