THE ASSOCIATION of Indian Universities (AIU) has asked the Major Dhyanchand Physical Education Department of Barkatullah University (BU) to send a proposal for construction of an international-level cricket stadium.
Responding promptly to the AIU letter, the Physical Education Department of BU has sent a letter to the AIU with the estimated cost of Rs 8 crore for the stadium. The university had to send it by November 16.
The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) had made a proposal and sent it to the AIU under which two universities from each zone will be selected for international-level cricket stadia. The AIU has divided the universities in four zones including East, West, North and South. BU is in the West Zone.
According to sources, Physical Education Department of BU received a letter a few days back in which the AIU asked to send the proposal.
Physical Education Department Director Dr Akhilesh Sharma confirmed that the department has received a letter regarding the proposal but declined to divulge details.
The university has already started constructing a cricket stadium on its premises. The Physical Education Department has spent almost Rs 30 lakh and has floated a tender of Rs 60 lakh for construction of pavilion and other groundwork. A few structures like small part of pavilion and some groundwork have been completed.

{{/usCountry}}At present, Bhopal has no world-class cricket stadium and there has been a demand for such a facility. The university is hoping that its proposal would be accepted because it has all the required facilities.
