Apropos of the editorial Pox populi (December 6), a parallel is drawn between the Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Gujarat. As Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee justified the recapture of Nandigram land by the CPI(M) cadres, in the same way Narendra Modi has stood by the action of police officers in eliminating Sohrabuddin in a fake encounter. But the cases are different. By raking up subjudice issues, Modi wants to whip up communal passion. His ultimate aim is to garner Hindu votes.

Paradigm shift
With reference to the report Three-month jail for abandoning elderly parents (December 7), it can be safely said that the education system is not to blame for the absence of values among the young. I blame the Indian homes where a radical paradigm shift has taken place. Today, unlike yesteryears, we give all the importance to the accumulation of wealth and refuse to recognise the existence of God.

A one-way street
Apropos of the report No Jaywalking, please, we’re Dilliwalahs (December 6), it is not only the fault of pedestrians but also that of drivers who park vehicles haphazardly even on footpaths, leaving no space to walk. Why are the civic authorities not fined for not taking care of the roads?

Dubious concerns
Tamil Nadu chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s concern for Malaysian Tamils is deplorable. The worst discrimination takes place in India where rich SC/STs and OBCs get admissions to medical or engineering courses. It is dangerous to allow anarchists like Karunanidhi to play politics abroad.
