Ridiculing the Centre's 'aam admi' slogan, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Monday alleged that the Union Government has failed to keep a check on spiralling price and asked it to draw lessons from the past.
"The Congress claims that the UPA government is an aam admi ka sarkar. But their own records show that 30 crore
people are going hungry. What kind of aam admi ka sarkar is it at the Centre?
"Why is food production going down? It will fall further this year. I would like to warn the Congress government to
take lessons from the past," Bhattacharjee said.
He was addressing a Left Front rally to mark the 50th anniversary of the 'Food Movement' in the state when 80 people
were killed in police lathi-charge in Kolkata in 1959.
Blaming the Centre for allowing forward trading in foodgrains which led to spiralling prices of essential
commodities, Bhattacharjee said "big companies are stockpiling rice, dal, sugar and cooking oil."
The rally by the ruling CPI-M was a show of strength to counter one by the Trinamool Congress on July 21 in Kolkata.
