IT'S THAT time of the year again when the budding techies of the country will assemble on a single platform and pit their grey cell against others. Preparations have begun in right earnest for the three-day annual technical fest of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT)—Avishkar-2006 that is all set to begin from September 20.

It will be three days full of challenges and competitions for the budding engineers that will test their acumen be it of mechanical, electronic, robotics or business concepts. The various events planned for the fest include Vidyutansh, Sangadna, Yantriki, Sanrachna, Robomania, Qtopia, Kootniti and The Gag Bag.
Vidyutansh is based on electronics and electrical engineering and the participants will have to prove their abilities in different events namely Coulomb's Envy, Electrosoft, Embedded Design, Kabaad Se Jugaad, Livewire, Pentathlon, Predefined Hardware and Vivechna.
Sangadna has events like Abhigyan, Java Cafe, Jagriti, Kurukshetra, Kalpana, Prabhanjan, Prastuti, Pratyancha, Sanshodhan and Webster while Yantriki, for mechanical engineering students has events like Abhivyakti, Kushagrata, Lakshya, Mritunjay, Newton's Price, Paanchyajanya and Srijan.
Sanrachna aimed at Civil Engineering students includes events like Aashiyana, Ashwamedha, Chakravyuh, Manthan, Nirman, Parikalpana, Sarvekshan and Trishna.
Robomania includes events like autonomous robotics, manual robotics, parivartan and robotics 4 freshers. Qtopia is a quiz competition and includes general quiz, multimedia quiz, sports/corporate quiz events. Kootniti, based on business world comprises events like corporate wars, agent sigma 006, stratagem, two marketers and virtual CEO. The Gag Bag has Anveshan, Galganomania, Informals, School Bag and Treasure Hunt.

{{/usCountry}}The contenders will have to apply separately for the Treasurer hunt and Kurukshetra. The competition has already started as problem set for Webster, problem of Prabhanjan, problem of embedded design and predefined hardware has already been uploaded on-line. Kurukshetra, the on-line programming contest will open from 5 pm September 17 and continue till 5 am September 18.
President of MNNIT Students Activities Centre (SAC) Dr Rakesh Narain said that all the preparations were on full swing and different committees have been formed for different tasks including Core Management Committee, Web Design Committee, Hospitality Committee. A number of coordinators have been appointed for different events as well.
"A meeting of all the conveners and coordinators was held on Friday to discuss and chalkout plans for the success of the programme", said Dr Narain.
"We have introduced some changes this year to improve the events and the problems have been put on-line for the participants", informed Dr Narain. Invitations have been sent to many institutes including IITs, IIMs, regional colleges and to the MNNIT alumnus as well, he added.
