ON DAY two of the ongoing annual technical fest of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT)—Avishkar-2006— events like ‘Ashiyana’ and ‘Insomnia’ enthralled and tested the skills of the students to their fullest on Thursday.

In the night out programming event 'Insomnia', students slogged it out for more than six hours. The cream of the college had to rack their brains to find solutions to seven very tough problems. Abishek Tiwari and Harsh Moorjani of SRCEM-Lucknow bagged the first prize.
In the business event, ‘Two Marketeers’, the teams had to come up with innovative ideas to sell products like 'A Lamp that throws black light' and 'Sour Grapes'.
‘Strategem’ was a case study where team had to analyse cases and come up with solutions. Gaurang Shukla and Avishek Das of MNNIT BTech-III were declared the winners while Saket Kandoi of MNNIT BTech-II closely followed them in the second place. Third place went to Shayak Lahiri and Someshwar Banerjee of the MNNIT BTech-II.
‘Java Café’ and ‘Debugging’ contest were organised in the morning by the Computer Science and Engineering Department. Students had to find faults in the code of the programs and fix them.

Industry leaders L&T and IBM held seminars to give the technocrats the idea of the dynamics of the challenges they will face when they enter the real world.
In Model House Building competition 'Ashiyana', students had to create models of their dream houses. They lived up to the challenge by coming up with amazing pieces of architecture.
The sports and corporate quiz received an overwhelming response from the students. ‘Robotics’ was another major attraction of the day.
‘Pentathalon’ also progressed reaching its final round to be held tomorrow.
According to last report, ‘Livewire’ the night out programming events for electronic and electrical engineering students had begun.
The special attraction was the ‘School Bag’. In this 45 students from various schools including participated in a quiz and then visited the ongoing technical events and also visited various labs and workshops of the college.
They also participated in the events like Poster competition, model presentation. MNNIT also hosted a lunch for the students.
Earlier on Wednesday, event 'Mritunjay', ‘Survivor Series’ of mechanical engineering, gave a kick start to the event, with extra ordinary participation.
Events like Webster (Web Designing), Predefined Software and paper presentations of various departments also drew huge response from the students. Biz-Wiz was on a full-flow with events like 'Strategem'. The multimedia quiz was also organised at the seminar hall. The event was sponsored by IT giant IBM.
The highlight of the day 'Robotics' also began at MP hall complex. The event was divided into autonomous robotics and manual robotics categories.
The predefined configuration of the competition was given to the students who were asked to design robos capable of grabbing the bomb, lifting it and carrying it to desired destinations after mounting up over a bridge and breaking a pillar.
Similarly in the autonomous category, the robos had to get out from a predefined maze. These were paths with coded messages.
The robos equipped with optical sensors and path finders were to decode the coded messages to search the right path which could lead it outside of maze.
Student coordinator of Robotics event, Mithun Vyas informed that overall 18 players and 8 teams have registered for the robotics events. The teams included IIT-Kanpur, IT-BHU, IET-Lucknow, ITM-Gorakhpur and others.
The result of events like ‘Parikalpana’ (Paper Presentation) and evolution were also declared. First year gave a tough competition to their seniors by bagging first and the third prize.
Udeesha Gautam (BTech-I) bagged the first prize in ‘Parikalpana’ while Prashant Gazipur, Praveen Kumar and Deepak Goyal (BTech-III) stood first in
‘Evolution’.
