Adding a humane touch to his Budget, finance minister Arun Jaitley announced the government's intention to print currency notes with Braille-like imprints.
He also proposed to provide assistance to state governments for establishing fifteen new Braille presses and modernise ten existing ones in 2014-15. The Braille presses in the government and private sector have, so far, failed to meet the demand of textbooks for visually impaired students.
"A national level institute for Universal Inclusive Design and Mental Health Rehabilitation, and a Centre for Disability Sport has also been proposed for the welfare of disabled people in the country," Jaitley added.
The minister said that the scheme to assist the differently abled purchase aids and appliances will be extended.
