INCREASING NUMBER of insects in the rainy season has compounded the misery of Varanasi residents. Hundreds of people have become victims of bug bites and landed in hospitals for treatment. These bugs cause several skin diseases. At dusk, these bugs are in full flight and compel residents to switch off lights.

More than 18 patients who sustained bug bites reached the Shiv Prasad Divisional Hospital on Tuesday alone.
Chief medical superintendent and skin disease expert Dr VV Singh said he had treated more than hundreds of patients. He said these insects caused skin burn and inflict wounds.
Another skin expert Dr ML Srivastava said the best way to avoid an insect attack was to close the doors and the windows to prevent the entry of poisonous bugs into houses.
However, the most harried lot are the two-wheeler drivers as they have no way they can ward off bug attack. Sudden attack by a bug may also result in a serious accident if the driver is not careful.
