“Shahi Imam Ahmed Bukhari himself met with Sonia Gandhi and offered support to Congress party. I don’t know why any controversy is being raised on this. But if Baba Ramdev, simply a Yoga teacher, openly supports and campaigns for BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the Congress doesn’t even reacts. It shows hollowness of the BJP,” he said.

He claimed that people of the state, particularly of the erstwhile Doda district, have extended their full support to the party candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad.

He said people of this region have, in the past also, given message of brotherhood to the state by electing Congress and National Conference (NC) candidates from all six assembly segments of erstwhile Doda region in 2008 assembly elections.

He said in the parliamentary elections people will elect Azad as they believe in development and secularism as they have rejected divisive and communal politics.

“People of the Doda region didn’t get swayed by disturbance in the state during 2008 Amarnath land row. They maintained brotherhood even during militancy in the region,” he said.

He said people of this constituency are fortunate that Azad is contesting from here, as he is a person who did “huge development in the state when he was the chief minister”.
