Despite clear directives issued by SSP GK Goswami to all the police stations, none has registered cases in major incidents barring the one at Hussainganj.

Top cops, including IG Zone AK Gupta, DIG Range Subhash Chandra and the district magistrate (DM) have asked the Lucknow police to prepare a comprehensive report containing reasons and the persons behind the violence during the elections.

Major incidents of violence were reported from Sarojininagar, Saadatganj, Talkatora, Ghazipur, Thakurganj, Hussainganj, Aashiana, Krishnanagar and Gomti Nagar. Senior officials had asked concerned SHOs and SOs to immediately register cases against identified or group of persons involved in the violence/skirmishes.

But, merely one case has been registered at the Hussainganj police station so far. This case was lodged as the incident involved the State Election Commission office (SEC). A mob led by candidates had pelted the SEC office with stones. A Myoral candidate Major SN Tripathi was caught in the matter and the cops had no option but to register the case.

In another major incident at a poll centre in Narpatkhera locality of Talkatora, an SP candidate Manoj Yadav and his rival candidate Salim entered into a clash over an allegation of rigging. The group engaged in brick-batting causing serious injuries to about a half-a-dozen persons, including women and a child. The cops somehow managed the matter but no FIR was lodged.

On the other hand, groups had indulged in tearing off ballot papers and damaging property at two polling centres in Thakurganj. Since SO here does not follow instruction of senior officials due to his close relation with power that be, no action was initiated against the troublemakers.
