Shooter Samresh Jung stole the limelight by bagging two gold medals but India slipped to the third position behind England in the medals tally after the third day of competitions in the 18th Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
The Indians, who were placed second yesterday, added three more gold to their kitty to boost their medal tally to seven gold, three silver and a bronze but it was not enough to stop England from dislodging them.
Hosts Australia maintained their position atop the medal table with a tally of 23 gold, 15 silver and 18 bronze while England had a tally of 8-11-6.
The 35-year-old Jung was the star performer as he first teamed up with Vivek Singh to clinch gold in men's 10 m air pistol pairs event and then won the yellow metal alongwith Ronak Pandit in the 25 m standard pistol pairs event.
It was yet another rewarding day for the Indians as the shooters accounted for two gold and the lifters fetched a gold and a bronze medal to continue the medal surge.
Y Renu Bala Chanu produced India's second gold medal from the weightlifting arena as she claimed the honour in the women's 58 kg category with an overall lift of 185 kg while Sudhir K Chitradurga won a bronze in the men's 69 kg division with a lift of 287.
