Taking lessons from the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case which has once again shaken the BPO industry, companies have started directing cab operators to get drivers verified by the police.
Cab operators, meanwhile, blame call centres for compromising on safety by not sending guards with women, even if the drop is after 6pm.
Kamal Kumar Sharma, general secretary, Gurgaon Transport Association, blamed some companies for flouting the safety guidelines.
“Some firms do not depute a security guard when women are dropped after 6pm to save on cost. It is mandatory for companies to depute a guard for dropping women up to their doorstep. We never pick a woman first or drop her last,” he said.
Manav Bahari, another cab operator who has a fleet of 250 cabs and ferries employees of Microsoft, Google, Genpact, WNS and others, said that due to cut-throat competition, some firms had hired low-paid drivers and compromised on quality.
The BPOs, meanwhile, refute the allegations saying no compromises are done with the safety and security of women employees.
