Cabinet nod for 2 pvt power projects

THE STATE Cabinet today gave its nod to the two executive contracts — the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) — to set up two power plants worth Rs 4400 crore to generate 930 MW of power.

According to sources, the MoUs to set up the two power plants would be signed soon. Sources said the Cabinet gave its nod to two MoUs by holding its meeting through circulation method. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav later gave his approval to the MoUs for the two projects. Chief Minister said the Birla group would set up two coal-based power generation units at Roza Power Plant in Shahjahanpur.

Sources said each unit would have a capacity of 300 MW. He added the project would involve an investment of Rs 2600 crore. Another power plant having three hydroelectric generation units would be set up at Srinagar (Uttaranchal) by the GVK Industries, Hyderabad. Total power generation capacity of the project would be 330 MW with each unit having a capacity of generating 110 MW of power. The total cost has been put at Rs 1600 crore. GVK is said to be the first company that started power generation in the private sector in Andhra Pradesh.
