Gupta said that the CAG is an important constitutional body but it is strange that its findings are being dismissed by the government.

The land scams are there on the very face of the law viz Roshni Act to dispose of certain encroachments. At the time of enacting this law, it was termed as a historic legislation that would not only regularise certain old encroachments but would also fetch the exchequer an amount of Rs 25000 crore.

The goverment had also claimed that this would enable the state to execute several power projects and help overcome the energy crisis, Gupta said.

"But now after six-seven years, it is being stated that only about Rs 100 crore have been recovered. This itself raises doubts, even without the CAG, and needed a serious probe," he added.

Gupta said malpractices are hitting at the vitals of the society and the situation demands stern practical measures to set things right.
